The new North Liberty Branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library will located at the northeast corner of N. Main (State Road 23) and E. Market Streets, a site which SJCPL has purchased. Site preparation started in November 2004 with removal of a former gas station and a two-story house. Community input for the design of the new branch library was conducted through a series of community focus groups in May 2005 and the architect, Forum Architects, LLD, of South Bend, IN was hired by the Library Board that same month. Planning meetings with the architect started in late June 2005 and should be completed by late September or early October 2005. Detailed drawings and specifications will be released for competative bids in November or December 2005, with the award of a construction contract by the Library Board to the successful bidder in January 2006. Construction is scheduled to begin in March or April 2006 with substantial completion of the building and grounds expected in November or December 2006. Dedication of the new North Liberty Branch Library is expected to be in early February 2007. For periodic progress reports, see our "New North Liberty Branch" website.
